Ensembl Fruitfly What's New v16.3a.1 (4 August 2003)

Ensembl: Latest Developments
v16.3a.1 update
Ensembl Fruitfly release 16.3a.1 is a minor data/schema update.

The new Fruitfly data are
Type added to stable_id event table to distinguish transcript, translation and gene archived identifiers
New compara database generated with improved blastp parameters and improved best reciprocal hit putative orthologue analysis

The data on the Ensembl Fruitfly site is a direct import of the Release 3.1 FlyBase dataset; no additional gene build has been carried out, however repeats, blast hits from the Swall database and protein features have been computed through the Ensembl pipeline.

We have included Drosophila into the Ensembl system to allow people to access the Fly genome through the Ensembl user interface (both for visualisation and data mining) and to provide cross-species integration throught our comparative genomics resources (such as homologous gene links and family pages).

The canonical data for Drosophila is managed at FlyBase and we are working in partnership with them to provide feedback on their resources.

v16 Schema changes
 Core
  go_xref table definition altered
new dnac table allowing usage of compressed sequence
type column added to stable_id_event table

New Features in v16.3a.1
   New BLAST/SSAHA interface
A new interface, along the lines of Martview, has been implemented for this release. The new page provides access to both BLAST and SSAHA, can search against multiple species, and accepts multiple query sequences. [More]

   Family alignments
Familyview now provides the facility to export multiple family alignments in a variety of formats.

   MartView updates
See the EnsMart homepage for details of Mart updates.
